Applicant Privacy Notice

This notice explains how information submitted for membership consideration is handled by The Velum Society.

Information submitted

We receive the information an applicant chooses to provide, which may include name, contact details, city and country, professional or public-profile information, career or achievement information, referral details, invitation information, and written application responses.

Purpose

Application information is used for membership review, authenticity and reference checks, applicant correspondence, protection of the integrity of the consideration process, and administration of resulting membership decisions.

Review

Consideration may include review of information supplied by the applicant, references supplied by the applicant, and relevant publicly available professional or reputational information. Selection is intended to focus on lawful factors such as record, achievement, reputation, conduct, references, discretion, and potential contribution to the Society.

What not to submit

Applicants should not provide bank or payment account information, passwords, Social Security numbers, passport numbers, driver's-license numbers, medical information, or other sensitive data that is unnecessary for membership consideration.

Sharing

Application information is intended for the people and service providers reasonably necessary to administer membership consideration and related security or infrastructure. Applicant information is not intended for sale to advertisers.

Retention

Application records may be retained for as long as reasonably necessary to administer the review process, maintain re-application and decision records, protect the Society and its members, and meet applicable legal obligations. Records no longer reasonably required should be deleted or de-identified where appropriate.

Applicant choices

An applicant may request correction or deletion of information where applicable by replying to Society correspondence. If correspondence has not yet begun, the applicant may use the membership consideration form and identify the request clearly in the final-note field.

Membership and access

Membership, introductions, events, benefits, or other privileges do not authorize unlawful conduct or override laws, contracts, venue rules, third-party policies, safety requirements, or consent.

The Society does not publish a public member directory. Member identity, private introductions, and private gatherings are treated as confidential except where disclosure is authorized or legally required.
